Miriam Mertens Featured on the Saatkorn Podcast with Gero Hesse
Our CEO & Co-Founder Miriam Mertens was a guest with Gero Hesse — expert, consultant and blogger in the areas of employer branding, personnel marketing, recruiting, social media and new work — on the SAATKORN podcast. Everything here revolves around innovations and ideas for a better working world.
That is what this episode is about, among others:
The DeepSkill Founding Story
From a corporate career to a joint idea to her own EdTech start-up: Between great responsibility in the role of VP and family life, Miriam asked herself: “What is actually really important? ”. In everyday working life, she quickly notices: in addition to professional issues, above all, the human, emotional level. The few projects in which managers relied on emotional skills such as building trust between teams were usually the most successful.
So why not bring these so-called deep skills to the broad workforce?
That is exactly what DeepSkill is now doing with passion: intelligent programs for team development, managers, experts and talents. With algorithm-based configuration, HR developers get individualized learning paths for every organization. The brilliant learning programs empower specialists and managers with all relevant future skills, such as critical thinking, dealing with complexity or the ability to cooperate, in order to operate on the market in a sustainable manner.
Humanity as the key to economic success
Miriam's conviction and the principle of DeepSkill: We are more economically successful when we act more emotionally intelligently — more self-reflective, more confident in dealing with emotions, better at building trusting interpersonal relationships. Meeting yourself as people is fundamentally important in every team and every management and stakeholder relationship. This is followed by the ability and advantage to sensibly prioritize things, to set the focus correctly and to be able to achieve economic goals. The unavoidable path to successful development and sustainable transformation in times of multiple crises.
Training as a Service: DeepSkill as a combination of platform business and consulting
DeepSkill focuses on real deep behavioral change through blended learning experiences in a multi-format mix. Existing learning formats are mixed and intelligently supplemented in the digital space. Through individual coaching, e-learning and independent learning, but also group formats led by accredited coaching and training experts, companies receive the ideal learning path for them.
Particularly important: the strategic and targeted orientation of training to the corporate and personal goals and backgrounds of the target group. All data points collected through the previous analysis, training and learning progress of participants can be drawn exciting individual conclusions and recommendations made for the company. What needs to be further improved and how? What are the needs of the organization and what can solutions look like here? What can be specifically adapted in training?
The mix of tech-supported analysis and individualization of training makes DeepSkill a unique EdTech partner for modern personnel development.
This is how Key Performance Indicators become “Key Behavior Indicators”
An example: The company's overall goal is to become more risk-oriented and to be able to take risks more securely within the established framework conditions. How can DeepSkill help now? We find out why there has been a low willingness to take risks so far and which target group this affects. Just as important: What are specific corporate and management values and how can this goal be coordinated with them? And then: Which behaviours should ideally express the achieved goal of risk-taking? These target behaviors are then taken into account by designing learning formats and content, and the appropriate program, including goals and progress measurement, is put together.

People and tech are not a contradiction, but a real dream team
As Gero Hesse sums it up: In recent years, there have been two extremes in the HR world. “Some only believe in technology, figures, data, facts; and then others are traveling in a pink-red purpose world. And the truth is, of course, in the middle. ”
